Introduction: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder with high prevalence and increasing public health impact worldwide. In Peru, it is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality, largely attributable to modifiable risk factors such as obesity, sedentary lifestyles, and poor dietary habits, as reported by the CDC Peru (2022). Early identification of at-risk populations, such as university administrative staff, is essential for the implementation of effective prevention and control strategies. Objective: To determine the risk level of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus among administrative staff at the National University of Tumbes in 2024. Material and Methods: This was a quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental study. The FINDRISC questionnaire was administered to 70 administrative employees. Data were organized using Microsoft Excel and analyzed through descriptive statistics in SPSS v.22. Results: A total of 30% of participants were identified as having a high risk of developing T2DM. According to the FINDRISC tool, the main associated risk factors were: low daily intake of fruits and vegetables (81.4%), family history of diabetes (68%), physical inactivity (38%), age over 45 years (over 50%), elevated abdominal circumference (44.3%), and overweight or obesity according to BMI (80%). Conclusion: The administrative staff of the National University of Tumbes presents a high risk of developing T2DM, highlighting the urgent need for targeted preventive interventions focused on modifiable risk factors.
