Case report of Bifid Uvula in the northern coast of Peru

Introduction: The incomplete fusion of the palatal processes during pregnancy results in bifid uvula, often identified incidentally. Children predominantly observe it, and it may be associated with otologic discomfort, aneurysms, or certain genetic syndromes, requiring a thorough clinical evaluation. Its reported prevalence varies widely, ranging from 0.18% to 10.3%. The potential systemic associations further emphasize the importance of comprehensive assessment. Case Report: A 5-year-old mestizo girl with a history of recurrent throat discomfort was diagnosed with acute pharyngitis and tonsillar hypertrophy. Oral examination revealed a bifid uvula, with no additional oral anomalies. The diagnosis of isolated, non-syndromic bifid uvula was confirmed by both a gastroenterologist and an otolaryngologist. The only clinical manifestation was mild nasal speech without functional impairment, and thus, no treatment was deemed necessary. Conclusions: This case illustrates a benign anatomical variant with no clinical consequences, highlighting the importance of individualized management.
