Introduction: Breast cancer is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in women, associated with modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors. In Tumbes, Peru, the increasing incidence requires identifying local risk factors to strengthen prevention and timely screening. Objective: To determine the risk factors related to breast can-cer among women attending the Andrés Araujo Morán Health Center. Material and
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 70 women aged 35-65 years, selected through simple random sampling. A validated questionnaire was used to assess modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors. Descriptive analysis was performed using SPSS v25. Results: 43% showed a high risk due to age, and 20% due to hormonal factors. Additionally, 77% had a moderately healthy diet, 60% did not engage in physical activity, and 71.4% had not recently undergone mam- mography. Overall, 4% presented a high global breast cancer risk, while 37% had a medium risk.
Conclusions: There is a high prevalence of modifiable risk factors among the studied population, highlighting the need to strengthen health education programs, promote healthy lifestyles, and increase screening coverage for the early detection of breast cancer in Tumbes.
