Retención de residuos plásticos por vegetación ribereña: Reporte de caso y revisión sistemática

Resumen

La deficiente gestión de residuos plásticos ha favorecido su dispersión masiva en ecosistemas terrestres y acuáticos, generando impactos significativos en la biodiversidad. Mientras la mayoría de los estudios se concentran en ambientes marino-costeros, los ecosistemas continentales permanecen poco explorados. En este reporte de caso documentamos por primera vez la retención de residuos plásticos por vegetación ribereña en el río Sechura, norte del Perú. Las observaciones revelan que estas plantas actúan como trampas físicas y sumideros, liberando progresivamente meso- y microplásticos hacia el curso del río, el cual desemboca en el manglar de San Pedro, un sitio Ramsar de relevancia internacional. Asimismo, realizamos una revisión sistemática de la literatura en Scopus y PubMed siguiendo la metodología PRISMA, identificando la escasa evidencia disponible sobre la interacción flora–plásticos en Sudamérica. Nuestros hallazgos subrayan la necesidad de estudios enfocados en este fenómeno con implicancias directas para la gestión ambiental y la conservación de humedales costeros.
